Türkiye’s National Security Council (NSC) is set to convene on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Bestepe, Ankara, with a wide-ranging agenda that includes counterterrorism efforts, developments in Syria, and Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.

This marks the second NSC meeting of the year, during which Türkiye’s internal and external security policies will be assessed.

Counterterrorism operations, ‘Terror-Free Türkiye’ initiative

A key topic on the agenda is the progress of the “Terror-Free Türkiye” initiative, which aims to eliminate security threats within the country.

Officials will evaluate the latest intelligence and military updates regarding the ongoing counterterrorism operations against the PKK and its affiliates.

The council will also review the recent call from Imrali, urging the dissolution of the PKK, and the subsequent developments. Türkiye’s stance remains firm on the necessity for all factions linked to the group to disarm.

The NSC is expected to discuss how to ensure a conclusive resolution to the matter without delays or disruptions.

Developments in Syria and diplomatic engagements

Regional stability remains a priority, and the council will examine the latest developments in Syria.

Special attention will be given to the recent agreement between the Syrian government and the terrorist organization YPG.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin are set to present their assessments following last week’s diplomatic engagements regarding Syria.

The NSC will also consider the broader implications of these talks for Ankara’s security strategy in the region.
