National Security Council highlights ongoing security operations and regional developments
Türkiye reaffirms its commitment to countering terrorism and safeguarding national security following a meeting with the National Security Council (MGK)
In a statement following the National Security Council (MGK) meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex, Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to countering terrorism and safeguarding national security. The MGK underlined that all necessary measures would be taken to neutralize the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG and other terrorist threats.
The statement emphasized Türkiye’s stance on maintaining national security and territorial integrity against any fait accompli in the region. “It was emphasized that the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, which has turned the territories it usurped in Iraq and Syria into terror hubs, and the support provided to them, will be eliminated along with all elements in our region, and no opportunity will be given to any fait accompli contrary to our national security and the territorial integrity of our neighbors,” the statement read.
During the MGK meeting, detailed information was provided about the ongoing operations conducted within and beyond Türkiye’s borders against terrorist organizations, including PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and Daesh.
The statement also highlighted Türkiye’s collaborative efforts with Iraq, noting that enhanced bilateral agreements would further strengthen cooperation. It was pointed out that concrete progress in security would bolster joint efforts aimed at regional development.
Regarding Israel, the MGK condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions. “The practices aimed at suppressing the voices rising from all over the world to end Israel’s crimes against humanity in Gaza have once again revealed the insincerity of those who claim to defend the rule of law, democracy, and freedom of expression,” the statement noted.
The council also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, stressing the urgency of establishing a just and lasting peace. “The latest developments in the war, which is worsening the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, were discussed, and the possibilities for establishing a fair and lasting peace as soon as possible were evaluated,” the statement said. The importance of ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea in cooperation with coastal states was also underscored.
Additionally, the MGK reiterated Türkiye’s support for peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing hope that the talks would result in a lasting peace agreement.
On the technological front, the council recognized the significant advancements in artificial intelligence and their potential to usher in a new era in human history. However, it also acknowledged the challenges and new threats in cyberspace. The statement stressed the importance of Türkiye preparing for the scientific, military, economic, and social implications of AI and developing advanced capabilities in this field.
The MGK meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Türkiye’s dedication to maintaining national security and supporting regional stability through cooperative and proactive measures
