The National Security Council (NSC) meeting, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, concluded with a renewed emphasis on achieving a terror-free Türkiye.

NSC has issued a statement following its recent meeting, underscoring Türkiye’s goal of achieving a future free of terrorism.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Complex in Bestepe, lasted approximately two-and-a-half hours and covered key national security issues.

Decisions on counterterrorism and national security

The NSC addressed ongoing threats from various terrorist groups, including the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO and Daesh.

The council underscored the importance of the continued fight against these organizations both domestically and abroad.

The statement read, “The process of closely and meticulously monitoring the dissolution of the separatist terrorist organization, the laying down of arms, and the disarmament of all its affiliates will continue,” the NSC declared.

The statement also highlighted that the achievement of a terror-free Türkiye would foster greater national unity and peace, improving the welfare of all citizens.

“With the achievement of a terror-free Türkiye, our national unity and solidarity will be further strengthened, and the country’s socioeconomic development and democratic processes will be accelerated,” it read.

Türkiye’s role in Syria and regional stability

The NSC reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Syria’s territorial integrity and efforts to rid the country of terrorist groups.

“Türkiye will continue to support efforts to establish a permanent government in Syria and to rid the country of all terrorist organizations,” the statement read, further emphasizing Türkiye’s continued efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region.

In addition, the NSC stressed that Türkiye would continue to monitor efforts to destabilize the region, especially through provocations aimed at undermining Syria’s territorial integrity.

“Türkiye will maintain its approach to preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, including all its religious, sectarian, and ethnic identities, and its unitary structure,” the statement noted.

Situation in Palestine and global diplomatic efforts

The NSC also addressed the ongoing situation in Palestine, emphasizing the need for Israel to halt its policies of occupation and return to a cease-fire regime.

“It is crucial that Israel immediately returns to a ceasefire regime and ensures that humanitarian aid reaches the region without obstruction,” the statement stated.

The NSC reiterated that Türkiye would continue efforts to support the reconstruction of Gaza and ensure the safety and prosperity of its citizens. “Steps will be taken to ensure that the people of Gaza can live freely in their homeland with security, peace, and prosperity,” it added.

Türkiye’s continued role in global peace efforts

The NSC praised Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, particularly in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The statement expressed Türkiye’s support for continued negotiations and diplomatic efforts to bring about a just and lasting peace. “Türkiye will continue to take initiative to ensure the process concludes with a fair and honorable agreement and the establishment of lasting peace,” the NSC affirmed.

The statement also reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the country’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Balkans.

“Türkiye will continue its efforts to preserve peace and stability in the Balkans by taking an inclusive and conciliatory approach to any developments that could disrupt the region’s peace,” the NSC declared.

Türkiye’s strategic role in regional and global security

The NSC underscored Türkiye’s crucial role in both European security and global peace efforts. With its strong military capabilities, advanced defense industry, and strategic geopolitical location, Türkiye continues to contribute to regional and international security.

The statement highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to improving security cooperation with its allies, as well as supporting the security and stability of other regional partners.

“Türkiye’s role in European security and its contributions to the security of its alliances will continue to be a cornerstone of the region’s peace and prosperity,” the NSC concluded.
