Mesut Ozil doesn’t disappoint elementary school president

A 4th grade Istanbul student Kaan Erdem Erol ran a successful campaign to become elementary school president with one of his chief promises of bringing retired professional football midfielder Mesut Ozil to school.
Ozil did not disappoint the newly elected 10-year-old president, making a visit to Kaan’s elementary school in Istanbul’s Uskudar district on Tuesday.
The former Arsenal and Real Madrid midfielder Ozil was welcomed enthusiatically by students, posed for photos and passed out autographs. He commented, “It was a suprise for me, I was happy. My brother (Kaan) made a promise to his friends, and we kept that promise.”
Ozil took the time with students and encouraged them to pursue sports. When asked if he would pick ‘Christiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi,’ his response of choosing young Real Madrid star Arda Guler received wide applause from the crowd.
Young president Kaan stated, “I became the president and kept my word and brought Mesut Ozil to school. At first my friends didn’t believe me, I hope they believe it today. I would like to thank my (older) brother Mesut for not disappointing me.”
