Malaysia considers acquiring Turkish Kuzgun anti-ship missiles
Malaysian company Dayatech Merin plans to deploy Turkish Raven missiles on small warships of the Royal Malaysian Navy
Dayatech Merin, at the DSA 2024 defense exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, proposed integrating Kuzgun missiles from Türkiye onto small combatant vessels of the Royal Malaysian Navy.
This initiative, aimed at bolstering Malaysia’s naval capabilities, was illustrated through scale models of three Kuzgun missile iterations and an infographic depicting the placement of launchers on Malaysian Navy ships. These launchers, housing five cells each, are positioned at the rear of Laksamana-class corvettes and Perdana-class missile boats. Dayatech representatives announced ongoing communication with TUBITAK SAGE, the missile’s developer, and plans to invite Royal Malaysian Navy officials to Türkiye for a live missile demonstration in the near future.
While the launcher depicted in Dayatech’s illustrations slightly differs from the Türkiye version, it’s important to note that these are preliminary designs subject to adjustment based on approved specifications.
Kuzgun-KY
The Kuzgun precision-guided munition, weighing 100 kilograms, is a flexible tactical weapon. It’s modular in design, allowing for various propulsion, navigation, and warhead configurations, which ensures cost-effectiveness and precise targeting while minimizing collateral damage.
TUBTAK-SAGE is crafting three versions – solid-fuel (KY), turbojet engine (TJ), and free-fall (SS) – suitable for different platforms like unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and aircraft.
