Main opposition’s Ankara mayor hints at potential presidential run amid early election discussions
As speculation about early elections gains momentum, particularly driven by the main opposition party Republican People’s Party (CHP), the potential presidential candidates are becoming a topic of debate. CHP’s Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavas recently addressed the possibility of running for president, offering a nuanced response that leaves room for future developments.
Too early to talk about candidacy
In an interview with Haberturk, Yavas downplayed immediate discussions of candidacy, stating, “There is no election agenda in Türkiye at the moment, so it’s too early to discuss candidacy.” He emphasized that his current focus remains on serving the people of Ankara, suggesting that any consideration of a presidential bid is premature.
Hinting possible candidacy
However, Yavas did not entirely rule out the possibility of running. He added, “But if the time comes and my party and the people want to see me as a candidate, I wouldn’t shy away from this duty. Of course, I would run.”
This statement leaves the door open for a potential presidential candidacy, depending on future political developments and the will of his party and supporters.
