Main opposition MP Oztrak becomes NATO-PA vice president
The main opposition party’s Tekirdag MP, Faik Oztrak, has been appointed as Vice President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, a post left vacant due to the UK’s decision to hold early elections.
Following this development, the leader of the main opposition, Özgür Özel, congratulated Oztrak and said:
“I sincerely believe that Oztrak will continue his successful work at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in his new position.”
Oztrak was unanimously elected as the Chair of the Economic and Security Committee, one of the five main committees of the Assembly, at the NATO-PA 69th Annual Meeting held in Copenhagen, Denmark, last October.
NATO-PA Vice Presidents are also members of the NATO-PA Bureau. The NATO-PA Bureau is the first responder when the Assembly needs to take an urgent position on internal or external events, making decisions and issuing statements on behalf of the Assembly. The Vice Presidents, who are also members of the Bureau, together with the President, set the Assembly’s priorities and oversee the coordinated implementation of the work program. In the event of the departure of the NATO-PA President, the Vice Presidents serve as acting Vice Presidents.
