Ozgur Ozel, the leader of Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), announced that the party will hold an extraordinary congress on April 6, 2025, in response to the possibility of a trustee being appointed to the party.

In his statement, Ozel made it clear that this decision was a direct response to concerns that a trustee could be appointed to disrupt the upcoming elections.

Today, we are witnessing a new development… We have seen attempts to prevent the election by appointing a trustee to the CHP. I am now announcing our response:
Using the authority granted to me by our party’s statute, we have decided to hold an extraordinary congress in 15 days, effectively blocking any attempt to impose a trustee. We will inform Türkiye of this decision.

On April 6, we will hold the congress. With this step, we send a clear message to those with ill intentions: we will continue on our path.
