Main opposition CHP’s candidate Mansur Yavas wins Ankara mayoral election
Mansur Yavas secures victory in Ankara’s mayoral election, promising to invest in various sectors of civic life and to serve all constituents equally
The city of Ankara has chosen its new municipal leader, Mansur Yavas from Republican People’s Party (CHP)
The spotlight was on two main contenders: Mansur Yavas of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Turgut Altinok from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
In his victory speech, Yavas portrayed a vision of collective progress and unity.
He expressed, “We do not see these election results as a victory. We have no enemies before us; we are all honorable individuals of this country and city. Political views may differ, but now that the election is over, we put aside our badges to serve all 6 million residents of Ankara without discrimination.”
“Ankara will rise like a phoenix from the ashes, overcoming all difficulties,” he asserted. “Entrusted to us by Mustafa Kemal and his comrades, who showed the world their unyielding love for this country, Ankara is also a legacy of all our martyrs, past and present, due to its status as the capital. We will continue to protect this legacy.”
Yavas extended a heartfelt thanks to his campaign team, volunteers, and party leaders, particularly acknowledging the contributions of Kemal Kılıcdaroglu and Ozgur Ozel. He especially thanked his family, who stood by him amid false allegations, saying, “Every time I looked into their eyes, I rediscovered the meaning of life.”
He added, “The losers of this election are not my competitors or their supporters; we respect their efforts, their hard work, and their sacrifices. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
Yavas promised transparent, participatory, and accountable governance, focusing on every aspect of civic life in Ankara.
He vowed, “I promise you, as in our previous term, we will manage this city with a transparent, participatory, accountable approach. We will not differentiate; we will not ignore anyone in need. We will continue to invest in the industry, tourism, transportation, infrastructure, technology, education, culture, and arts of Ankara.”
Demonstrating the democratic spirit, Turgut Altinok gracefully accepted the election results, saying, “Our citizens have made their choice. This is democracy, and we respect it.”
The election results and Yavas’ comprehensive speech suggest a new direction for Ankara’s leadership, focusing on inclusiveness, transparency, and development.
