Istanbul’s healthcare community calls for a global boycott against Israel, stressing the severe impact of the conflict on Gaza’s medical services

Doctors, healthcare workers, and medical students from various hospitals in Istanbul gathered in Fatih for a silent protest against Israel’s attacks on Gaza.

Starting at the tomb of Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II, participants donned blood-stained lab coats and carried Palestinian and Turkish flags.

Dr. Emirhan Celikpercin, addressing the crowd in Sultanahmet Square, emphasized the escalation of Israel’s long-standing occupation and brutality in Palestine since October 7. He insisted on bringing to light the atrocities he claims are often overlooked in global discussions.

Celikpercin stressed the dire situation in Gaza, with key hospitals like El-Ehli Baptist and International El-Hulu running out of fuel.

He said, “According to the latest information, the remaining hospitals in the region, including El-Ehli Baptist and International El-Hulu, have run out of fuel. In a written statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the only operational hospital in northern Gaza, Kemal Advan Hospital, has also been rendered inoperative due to fuel shortages, resulting in the starvation deaths of 7 infants.”

Speaking on the importance of boycott efforts against Israel, Dr. Celikpercin stressed, “We reiterate our call for a boycott in every aspect of our lives and professions. From the latest figures released by companies, it is clear that even the smallest boycott effort in our daily lives, when united, becomes a powerful force.”

“We remind all our colleagues to continue boycotting pharmaceutical companies that support oppression. We also expect the same level of sensitivity from the Ministry of Health officials in hospital pharmacies,” Dr. Emirhan Celikpercin stated.

Parallely, Dr. Hamza Ayaz described Israel’s actions as genocide, highlighting their attacks on a defenseless population, the bombing of fields, and the restriction of food supplies to the city, all in plain sight of the international community.
