Istanbul suspends education on Feb. 20 due to heavy snowfall

Istanbul Governor’s Office announced the suspension of education in the city on Feb. 20 due to heavy snowfall.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued an orange alert for Istanbul between February 19-21, warning of snow accumulation between 20-40 cm in northern districts and high-altitude areas.

The snowstorm in Istanbul has already begun Wednesday and is expected to last four days, with the most intense conditions on Friday and Saturday.
According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snowfall and icing are expected throughout our province.
Considering the safety of our students and citizens, education and training in all educational institutions (kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools, and high schools) across Istanbul will be suspended on February 20, 2025.
Additionally, disabled employees, female employees with children under 8 years old, and pregnant staff working in public institutions will be considered on administrative leave.
I earnestly request that our citizens be careful and take precautions, and avoid using private vehicles on the roads unless absolutely necessary.
