Istanbul police close roads near Syrian consulate ahead of planned protest

Istanbul’s Traffic Control Branch Directorate has closed several roads near the Syrian Consulate in Sisli as part of security measures implemented in response to planned demonstrations, officials announced Sunday.

The road closures came after several associations and groups called for protests to be held in front of the consulate during midday hours, prompting police to enhance security in the area.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m., authorities closed multiple streets that will remain blocked until the conclusion of the demonstration.

The affected areas include the intersection of Macka Avenue and Abdi Ipekci Avenue to the Tesvikiye Avenue intersection, the intersection of Tesvikiye Avenue and Macka Avenue to the Vali Konagi Avenue intersection, as well as Nisantasi Ihlamur Yolu Street and Atiye Street.

Police have designated alternative routes for drivers, including Valikonagi Avenue, Rumeli Avenue, Abdi Ipekci Avenue, Bostan Street, Osman F. Seden Street, Bronz Street, Husrev Gerede Avenue, Akkavak Street, Ahmet Fetgari Street, and Mim Kemal Oke Avenue.

The traffic measures will remain in effect throughout the planned protest, according to police officials.
