Iranian foreign minister meets Hezbollah leader as tensions rise on Lebanon-Israel border
During his visit to Lebanon, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah amidst heightened tensions with Israel along the Lebanese border. The meeting took place at an undisclosed location.
Iran’s foreign minister pledged ongoing support for Hezbollah, stressing Lebanon’s security interdependence with Iran and the wider region. Representatives from Hezbollah, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad warmly greeted Amir-Abdollahian in Lebanon.
Hezbollah released photos from the meeting, indicating discussions on Gaza developments, conditions in southern Lebanon – where Hezbollah engages in daily border exchanges with Israel and other fronts within the “axis of resistance.”
Iran provides substantial support to Hezbollah and other designated terrorist groups in the region, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza, and the Houthis in Yemen.
Amir-Abdollahian also met with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut.
Hezbollah resumed attacks along the Lebanon-Israel border on Oct. 8. The group has stated it will cease attacks on Israeli military positions once Israel’s offensive in Gaza concludes.
