The US Coast Guard intercepts advanced weaponry from Iran bound for Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, U.S. Central Command reports

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Thursday that the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted advanced weaponry and lethal aid from Iran intended for Houthi-controlled regions of Yemen in the Red Sea on Jan. 28.

According to CENTCOM, the interception revealed a cache of over 200 packages containing components for medium-range ballistic missiles, explosives, equipment for unmanned underwater/surface vehicles (UUV/USV), military-grade communication gear, anti-tank guided missile launcher assemblies, and other military materials.

CENTCOM emphasized its commitment, alongside its allies, to halt the flow of Iranian assistance through legal means, which includes sanctions and interdictions.

The Red Sea serves as a crucial maritime corridor for oil and fuel shipments globally.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently announced the launch of Operation Prosperity Guardian, a multinational initiative aimed at countering Houthi attacks.

In response, Iran declared its intention to reciprocate should its ships be seized, according to the legal adviser to Iran’s president, as reported by state media on Thursday.
