Hungarian FM speaks at joint press conference with Turkish counterpart

Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto visited Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Thursday.

“For us, natural gas supply is not possible without Türkiye; Türkiye is the most important, safest, most reliable, and predictable transit partner for us in ensuring the supply of Hungarian natural gas,” Szijjarto said at the press conference.

Stating that Türkiye plays a key role in Hungary and European security, Szijjarto said, “Today, Europe cannot cope with the challenges looming before the European Union without cooperation with Türkiye.”

He emphasized that this is also valid for energy and economic security, underlining the EU’s need for cooperation with Türkiye.

“If we cannot prevent illegal migrants from reaching Europe, we will lose Europe, and we do not want that,” he added, conveying his continuous support for Türkiye against illegal migration pressure.

Minister Szijjarto thanked Türkiye for its contribution to Hungary’s energy security.
