How did pro-government media react to Erdogan-Ozel meeting?
On Tuesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the headquarters of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) for the first time in 18 years. The visit marks an important step toward political normalization and dialogue in Türkiye, following CHP leader Ozgur Ozel’s recent visit to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) headquarters.
After the meeting, which lasted about one-and-a-half hours, AK Party Spokesperson Omer Celik emphasized the importance of this mutual visit. “Our President believes that this rare opportunity should not be wasted on daily political bickering,” he underlined.
Positive and sincere meeting
On the other hand, on the next day, newspapers also covered this important meeting. Especially pro-government media outlets described the meeting as positive and sincere.
Sabah daily described the meeting as a “historic summit”, while Ozel’s greeting of Erdogan at the door was labeled as a “warm welcome”.
On the other hand, Hurriyet daily carried a photo from the meeting on its front page citing it as a “new era”, emphasizing the sincerity of the conversation.
Yeni Safak newspaper brought up the detail that Erdogan’s visit to the CHP headquarters lasted one-and-a-half hours, and underlined the fact that it happened 18 years later.
Milliyet daily also drew attention to the visit after 18 years and reported in its headline that the meeting was very cordial and relaxed.
