Heavy rain in Istanbul on Monday, snow to return across Türkiye next week

Istanbul is preparing for heavy weather event as snow is expected to make a comeback in the city. The Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an urgent warning for heavy rain and snowfall, with precise timings provided for these events. Additionally, next week is expected to bring more snow to certain regions.

According to the daily weather forecast, rain is expected to start in Istanbul Sunday after the evening hours.

Additionally, the five-day weather forecast indicates that heavy rain will continue in Istanbu on Monday.

The forecast map suggests that there will be a mix of rain and snow in some Central Anatolian provinces on Monday, while snowfall is expected in some provinces in the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia regions.

Today’s weather across Türkiye

According to the Türkiye’s General Directorate of Meteorology’s predictions:

  • The northern, central, and western parts of Turkey will be partly to mostly cloudy.
  • Rain and showers are expected in Marmara, Western Mediterranean, northern Central Anatolia, Western and Central Black Sea regions, as well as in the vicinities of Denizli, Afyonkarahisar, Kutahya, Giresun, and western parts of Konya.
  • Higher elevations in central regions may experience mixed rain and snow, with snowfall expected at higher altitudes.
  • Frost and fog are anticipated in northern, central, and eastern parts of the country, with an increased risk of avalanches in the higher and steep slopes of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be 2 to 4 degrees above seasonal norms in the interior regions of Central and Eastern Black Sea, and Central Anatolia. No significant changes are expected in other areas.

Winds will generally blow from the south at light to moderate strength.

Warning for Aegean Sea

  • Avalanche Risk and Frost: Due to recent snowfall, there is a significant risk of avalanches in the higher regions of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions.
  • Storm Warning for Aegean Sea: A storm is expected to hit the Aegean Sea starting tomorrow evening, with winds forecasted to reach speeds of 50-75 km/h from the north and northeast. The storm is expected to subside by the night of March 4, and precautions should be taken against possible disruptions in transportation.
