A Greek national attempted to enter Türkiye by crashing into barriers at the Ipsala Border Gate, injuring a Turkish motorcyclist in the neutral zone between the Ipsala Border Gate and the Greece Customs Gate.

After colliding with a truck, the driver attacked police officers with a knife but was subdued after being shot in the foot.

Armed knife

The situation escalated when the driver, entering the area from the wrong direction, struck a motorcyclist and attempted to bypass a foreign-plated truck waiting in the X-ray inspection lane.

He lost control of the vehicle, crashing into both the truck and the security barriers.

According to a statement from the Edirne Governorship, after the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle armed with a knife and approached Turkish police officers.

Despite repeated warnings, the suspect ignored the officers’ instructions, leading the police to fire two warning shots into the air.

When the suspect continued to advance, officers shot him in the right foot to neutralize the threat.
