Egyptian media reports negotiations in Doha aiming for a Gaza cease-fire, with talks progressing to involve experts

The Egyptian news channel, close to the government, el-Ihbariyye, announced that expert-level negotiations have resumed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to achieve a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

No detailed information was provided on when the negotiations started or on the developments.

Additionally, the news indicated that after the meetings in Doha, discussions will continue in Cairo.

Israel has sent a delegation

Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 television reported information from an Israeli official stating that progress has been made in negotiations for the release of detainees in Gaza.

Furthermore, it was announced that a delegation will be sent to Qatar in the coming days to discuss all the details.

Israel’s official television also recalled that during previous discussions in Cairo, Hamas had insisted on the end of the fighting in Gaza as a condition for a prisoner exchange.

Hamas has stated that it has not yet been included in the latest proposal put together by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

However, the reported plan closely aligns with what Hamas has previously demanded for the initial phase of a cease-fire. Hamas’ top political leader was in Cairo last week.

Meanwhile, Israel is making plans to expand its military operations to the southern city of Rafah, situated on the Gaza-Egypt border.

Here, more than half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have sought shelter in overcrowded tent camps, packed apartments, and overflowing shelters.

Humanitarian organizations have warned of a looming catastrophe, with the U.S. and other allies of Israel emphasizing the need to prevent harm to civilians.

OIC calls for a cease-fire

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has urged for an “immediate cease-fire without conditions” to prevent more loss of life in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

The OIC emphasized once again that the “sole route to peace and stability in the area lies in securing the inherent rights of the Palestinian people, such as their national independence and sovereignty, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
