Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change takes action to prevent possible cyanide leakage to creek, resulting from landslide in Erzincan mine
Actions have been taken to avert a potential environmental catastrophe caused by a landside at a mine in the Ilic district of Erzincan, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.
As stated in a written statement released by the ministry, every resource at its disposal is being utilized to ensure the safe rescue of the miners who have become entangled in the debris of the mine accident. Furthermore, ongoing search and rescue operations are being carried out in coordination with the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The statement further emphasized the prompt allocation of inspection teams from the ministry’s central and provincial directorates to the area in the aftermath of the catastrophe. The ministry has coordinated the suspension of the gates at the confluence of Sabirli Creek and the Euphrates River as a precautionary measure to obstruct the material discharged during the landslide from entering the river. Ministry stated that teams are proactively engaged in the field, diligently observing developments with the uttermost tact and delicacy.
