French opposition leader highlights Erdogan’s Ukraine summit proposal
French opposition leader Roussel appreciates President Erdogan’s proposal to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, and expresses willingness to bring Ukraine to the negotiation table
In a plenary session addressing the security agreement between France and Ukraine, French Communist Party National Secretary Fabian Roussel drew attention to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent proposal for a summit aimed at resolving Russia’s war in Ukraine.
President Erdogan’s diplomatic efforts acknowledged
Roussel stressed the critical need for immediate action to end the conflict, emphasizing that every passing moment results in increased casualties and destruction.
He expressed confidence that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine were inevitable and urged swift measures to prevent further humanitarian crises.
Roussel highlighted his Ukrainian counterpart’s readiness to collaborate in this direction. He acknowledged Russia’s expressed willingness for a cease-fire and urged cautious support for Ukraine without crossing “red lines” that could lead France into direct conflict with Russia.
On March 8, President Erdogan announced Türkiye’s readiness to facilitate a summit between Russia and Ukraine, by expressing willingness to bring Russian and Ukrainian parties to the negotiating table.
Roussel referenced French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent statement, revealing a potential willingness to deploy troops to Ukraine, emphasizing that the signed security agreement alone would not bring a resolution to the conflict.
Focus on Gaza
Shifting the focus to the situation in Gaza, Roussel urged France to take a resolute political stance by recognizing a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. He argued that such a move would not only be symbolic but also set a precedent for other nations to follow suit in supporting Palestine.
This development unfolds against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions, with stakeholders grappling for diplomatic solutions to deescalate the crisis in Ukraine and address conflicts in other regions.
