Founding member Aydin’s departure may dissolve Good Party’s parliamentary group
Koray Aydin, one of the founding members of the Good Party (IP) and a member of Parliament from Ankara, has decided to resign. The official announcement is expected this week. This move poses a risk of the Good Party falling below the required number of MPs to maintain its parliamentary group status.
The internal disputes within IP began after Meral Aksener stepped down as party leader, bringing the party to the brink of dissolution. The unrest intensified with the election of Musavat Dervisoglu as the new leader, leading to significant discontent among key figures, including Koray Aydin.
Several MPs who support Aydin are expected to resign. Currently, the IP holds 35 seats in Parliament. If Canakkale MP Ridvan Uz, who is likely to be expelled for requesting the removal of Aksener’s photos, is indeed expelled, the seat count will be reduced to 34.
If 15 MPs resign alongside Aydin, the party will drop below the 20-MP threshold required to form a parliamentary group, resulting in the dissolution of the IP in Parliament.
