Former opposition leader vows legal action over ‘betrayal’ allegations

Former opposition Good Party leader Meral Aksener has announced plans to sue both Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the former main opposition leader of Republican People’s Party (CHP), and Umit Ozdag, leader of the far-right Victory Party, following their controversial statements. Aksener stated, “The terms ‘betrayal’ and ‘immorality’ are too heavy for me to bear,” signaling her intent to address the issue through legal channels.

Kemal Kilicdaroglu recently commented in an interview about Aksener’s appearance at the Presidential Complex, suggesting that “betrayal” was not surprising in this context. Similarly, Umit Ozdag made allegations on a YouTube channel, claiming that Aksener had intentionally supported President Erdogan’s re-election in 2018.

Heading to court

In response to these allegations, Aksener told Sozcu Daily that she has begun legal proceedings against both Kilicdaroglu and Ozdag. She emphasized that the accusations are intolerable, stating, “I am now preparing to take them to court. These words are too much for me and my family to bear.”

Aksener also highlighted her family’s history, underscoring the gravity of the accusations. She vowed to confront all those who have slandered her, demanding they present their evidence in court.

In 2022, 6 leaders who were positioned against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) agreed on how Türkiye would be governed and called themselves the ” Nation Alliance”. This alliance also included the main opposition CHP and the Good Party.
