Former FM Mevlut Cavusoglu praises Türkiye-Qatar cooperation on Gaza crisis
Chairman of the Turkish Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mevlut Cavusoglu praises Türkiye and Qatar’s joint efforts in the Gaza crisis
Chairman of the Turkish Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Member of Parliament for Antalya from the ruling Justice and Development (AK Party) Mevlut Cavusoglu commended the collaborative efforts of Türkiye and Qatar in addressing Israel’s assaults on Gaza, affirming, “Türkiye and Qatar are taking decisive action on Gaza.”
Speaking at a seminar titled “The Future of the Middle East after the Gaza War” held at the Qatar Press Center in Doha, as part of the Qatar Economic Forum, Cavusoglu engaged with journalists representing local, national and international media outlets.
Recognizing Egypt and Qatar’s mediation roles in the Gaza crisis, Cavusoglu expressed support, stating: “We endorse Qatar and Egypt’s mediation efforts. The global community bears responsibility for halting this conflict.”
Cavusoglu also criticized the U.S. administration’s handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations within the country, asserting: “The heavy-handed approach to ceasefire protests at American universities underscores the U.S.’s disregard for freedom of expression concerning Israel.”
Highlighting Türkiye and Qatar’s prioritization of the Gaza issue, Cavusoglu emphasized their proactive measures: “The Turkish and Qatari governments are actively addressing the Gaza crisis. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared Türkiye’s cessation of trade with Israel, despite a trade volume of $9.5 billion, in response to Israel’s relentless massacres in Gaza.
Türkiye suspended trade amounting to approximately $10 billion with Israel. Furthermore, Türkiye intervened in the genocide case brought against Israel at the International Court of Justice.”
Cavusoglu underscored Türkiye’s leading role in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza amid Israeli attacks: “Hence, Türkiye is fulfilling its responsibilities in this regard. Qatar is also taking decisive steps, both in terms of humanitarian assistance and cease-fire negotiations. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, and the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, maintain continuous communication, exerting joint efforts. Conversely, Israel persistently obstructs ceasefire negotiations. We must spare no effort in achieving a cease-fire,” Cavusoglu concluded.
