Foreign Minister Fidan holds talks with Iraqi officials in Baghdad
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held high-level meetings in Baghdad on Sunday with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and other key officials, as diplomatic sources confirmed.
The visit followed Fidan’s discussions with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and included closed-door talks with prominent figures such as Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and Hasan Turan, head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front.
He also met with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji and Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad Saeed Riza Al-Abbas.
No statements were released from the meetings, which occurred during a period of heightened regional uncertainty.
Two recent ceasefire agreements — one involving Israel and Hezbollah, the other between Israel and Hamas — and efforts by Syria’s new government to establish stability in a post-Assad era, have placed Iraq at the center of regional dynamics.
