FM Hakan Fidan to attend OIC emergency meeting in Jeddah

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will participate in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Emergency Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Jeddah on Friday to address ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestinians and call for their displacement.
According to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the meeting will focus on the continued Israeli aggression against Palestinians and international concerns regarding their forced displacement.
The session has been convened as a collective response from OIC members following U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the issue.

Fidan to emphasize Türkiye’s support for Palestinian rights
During the meeting, Fidan is expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s commitment to defending Palestinians’ inalienable rights, particularly their right to self-determination.
He will also emphasize that any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza is unacceptable and constitutes a violation of international law.
Fidan will highlight the importance of focusing on efforts to rebuild Gaza and will express Türkiye’s support for the plan adopted at the recent Arab League Emergency Summit in Cairo.
This plan, led by Egypt in coordination with member states, outlines a roadmap for the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing its residents and calls for regional and international support.

Push for international recognition of Palestine
The foreign minister is also expected to discuss potential steps toward international recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
He will stress the need for intensified collective efforts to ensure a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
At the Arab League summit in Cairo, member states endorsed a proposal to rebuild Gaza without displacing its population.
The plan includes a detailed reconstruction strategy and appeals for both regional and international backing.
The upcoming OIC meeting in Jeddah is expected to further discuss this initiative and explore mechanisms for its implementation.
The OIC Emergency Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will bring together high-level representatives from member states to discuss urgent humanitarian and political challenges in Palestine.
The meeting aims to consolidate diplomatic efforts to counter the displacement of Palestinians and strengthen international legal mechanisms to support their cause.
As the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the meeting is expected to underscore the necessity of a coordinated response.
