FM Fidan to join BRICS+ talks: Push for peace, economic cooperation
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will embark on a two-day visit to Russia Monday to attend a meeting of foreign ministers from the BRICS bloc and several other countries, known as BRICS+.
The meeting will take place in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday, where discussions will revolve around various regional and international issues, including recent developments in Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Libya and the South Caucasus.
During his visit, Fidan is expected to emphasize Türkiye’s desire for a peaceful resolution to ongoing conflicts in the region and its readiness to contribute to such efforts.
Economic and trade cooperation will also feature prominently, with a focus on increasing mutual investments and achieving the $100-billion trade volume target set by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin.
The BRICS+ session aims to address matters of international security, sustainable development, and global governance, with 15 non-member countries, including Türkiye, invited to participate.
Fidan is anticipated to engage in bilateral meetings with counterparts from other nations on the sidelines of the gathering.
President Erdogan has previously participated in the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in 2018. Russia currently holds the chairmanship of BRICS, with the theme “Strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security.”
The 16th BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in Kazan on Oct. 22-24.
