FM Fidan, Rubio discuss ‘Iran threat’ and regional security cooperation

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation on Monday, during which they discussed “regional security challenges posed by Iran and its proxies,” according to a written statement released by the U.S. Department of State.
U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today the dangers to regional security and stability posed by Iran and its proxies. They agreed on the importance of counterterrorism cooperation and strengthening NATO.”
The conversation highlights growing concerns over Iran’s regional activities and underlines the emphasis both governments place on NATO collaboration and security coordination in the Middle East.

Nuclear talks between Iran and the US in Muscat
Turkish diplomatic sources confirmed that Fidan also spoke with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on Monday regarding Iran’s ongoing nuclear negotiations.
These discussions followed indirect U.S.-Iran talks held on Saturday in Muscat, Oman, facilitated by Omani mediation.
The call between Fidan and Araghchi reportedly focused on diplomatic developments in the nuclear dossier and regional dialogue.

Broader diplomatic agenda: Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine
Fidan and Rubio also addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Syrian conflict, and the war in Ukraine during their call, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
Both sides reportedly discussed efforts to establish a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine and shared views on evolving conditions in the region.
Their communication followed a face-to-face meeting held on April 3 in Brussels during the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting.
