FM Fidan reaffirms Türkiye’s commitment to Syria’s stability and regional peace

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday reiterated Türkiye’s enduring dedication to stabilizing Syria and aiding its recovery, emphasizing the country’s long-term approach to restoring peace in the war-torn region.

In his address at the Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) 8th Provincial Congress, Fidan outlined Türkiye’s strategic initiatives in Syria, emphasizing that the process is focused on reintegrating peace and stability into the fabric of the nation.

‘Standing with rightful Syria is great honor’

“For years, we have crafted a strategy to weave peace and stability into its fabric. Standing with the rightful and the oppressed in Syria is a great honor for us,” Fidan said, underlining Türkiye’s support for the country’s recovery.

Fidan also called on the international community to lift sanctions on post-Bashar Assad Syria and assist in rebuilding the country’s infrastructure.

He stressed that a prosperous Syria would enable millions of displaced Syrians to return home and provide benefits not only to Syria but also to the wider region, including Türkiye.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong stance on supporting peace and justice for Palestinians. He condemned the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and stated, “It is impossible for us as a state, nation, and movement to retreat from the cause of Palestine and Jerusalem.”

Mobilization of resources

Highlighting Türkiye’s active diplomatic efforts, Fidan noted the country’s mobilization of resources to address these challenges, asserting that the Palestinian cause is deeply embedded in Türkiye’s foreign policy.

Fidan also underscored Türkiye’s role in regional development, pointing to the Development Road Project with Iraq, which aims to establish a strategic corridor linking the Gulf to Europe. This initiative reflects Türkiye’s commitment to fostering economic growth and connectivity throughout the region.

Concluding his address, Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s foreign policy vision of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity through cooperation and development initiatives, aligning the country’s progress with the welfare of its neighbors.
