Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset in Ankara to discuss bilateral cooperation and shared institutional priorities, Turkish diplomatic sources confirmed Tuesday.

During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the status of relations between Türkiye and the Council of Europe, of which Türkiye is a founding member.

Minister Fidan reiterated Ankara’s commitment to its longstanding partnership with the organization and welcomed Berset’s dialogue-based initiatives since taking office.

Support for inclusive dialogue, institutional initiatives

According to the diplomatic sources, Fidan expressed support for Berset’s efforts to foster inclusive and consensus-driven dialogue across Council of Europe member states.

He also underscored the importance of continued institutional engagement and collaboration on shared values and regional challenges.

Call for stronger role in combating racism

The Turkish minister also emphasized the need for the Council of Europe to play a more active and effective role in combating all forms of racism across the continent.
