FM Fidan: Iran-Israel war highly likely; Türkiye must be prepared
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan evaluated the recent developments in a television program, stating that a war between Israel and Iran “needs to be considered a high possibility.”
“As a country, we must be ready for the possibility of an Israeli-Iranian war,” FM Fidan said.
When asked about the likelihood of war between Israel and Iran, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated, “We need to assess this as a high possibility. It would be prudent for us, both as a country and as a region, to evaluate it as such. We need to be prepared for this scenario. This escalation is certainly not the kind we desire. The spread of war in the region and the triggering of instability is not something we wish for.”
Fidan emphasized that Türkiye has made significant efforts over the past two decades to promote peace and resolve conflicts. “We are in no way supportive of any conflict with Iran that could escalate into war. We are completely against this; however, if Iran acts in its legitimate defense, that is certainly its right,” he said.
In response to a question about Türkiye’s readiness for a potential global conflict, Fidan noted that various state agencies are actively addressing this issue and making preparations.
“Türkiye is highly proficient in analyzing its region,” he said. “I can confidently say that Türkiye is currently at a very high level in terms of analyzing both its region and new developments in the world.”
‘We have no eyes on anyone’s land’
He pointed out that current global political, economic, technological, and sociological trends indicate increasing division and polarization. “Türkiye has been in the midst of a ring of fire for 20 years. Thankfully, it has managed to navigate through all this safely and stands as a monumental figure in its region,” he remarked.
Fidan also addressed Türkiye’s foreign policy and security strategies, stating, “We have no eyes on anyone’s land. Our aim is to conduct our relations through regional development, stability, and prosperity.”
