Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Wednesday condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, political bureau chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran along with a bodyguard, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

While the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned Haniyeh’s assassination, Fidan made a statement on his social media account regarding the Hamas leader’s assassination.

The FM said that he deeply regretted the assassination of Haniyeh in Iran, adding: “He dedicated his life to the Palestinian cause, to bringing peace and tranquility to Palestine. We are witnesses to his recent efforts to achieve a cease-fire.”

‘Symbol of glorious Palestinian resistance’

Lamenting that his family members were killed by Israel, Fidan emphasized: “Even when members of his family were massacred by Israel, he never for a moment lost his belief in peace.”

“Ismail Haniyeh was a symbol of the glorious Palestinian resistance. His cherished memory will live on in the just cause of the Palestinian people. May Allah have mercy on him, and may his place be in heaven,” he maintained.
