Fire disrupts service at Istanbul’s Yenikapi metro station
A fire of unknown origin broke out at the Yenikapi metro station, leading to the suspension of service toward Yenikapi.
In a statement from Metro Istanbul, the institution running Istanbul’s metro operations, it was announced that “The M2 Yenikapi-Haciosman Metro Line’s Yenikapi station has been temporarily closed for operations. Service is continuing between Vezneciler and Haciosman stations.”
Yenikapi metro fire extinguished: Operations return to normal
A fire that broke out at Yenikapi Station on the Yenikapi-Haciosman Metro Line was extinguished after swift intervention by emergency teams. A fire ignited on one of the escalators at Yenikapi Station for reasons yet unknown. Authorities immediately dispatched police, fire, and medical teams to the scene.
The station, a key transfer point for public transportation, was temporarily closed due to heavy smoke affecting passengers. Station staff directed commuters to alternative shuttle services during the disruption.
The fire was contained by the combined efforts of fire and metro personnel. Passenger access to the station has resumed, but the area surrounding the malfunctioning escalator remains restricted for ongoing repairs.
