Fire breaks out in immigrant camp in Türkiye’s Gaziantep, residents evacuated to safety
A fire broke out from a transformer in the Nizip district of Gaziantep, spreading to a nearby temporary shelter center on Friday.
Emergency teams are battling the blaze, and shelter residents have been relocated to indoor sports halls in the district for safety.
The incident took place when a transformer caught fire, igniting dry grass in the surrounding area. The flames quickly grew and reached the temporary shelter center, prompting an immediate response from 112 Emergency medical services, police and fire brigade teams.
Firefighters actively work to control and extinguish the fire, while medical teams treat individuals affected by the smoke.
For precautionary measures, all residents of the temporary shelter center have been evacuated and transferred to indoor sports facilities in Nizip.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and efforts to contain the blaze are underway.
