A fire broke out at the Scrap Dealers Industrial Site in Ankara’s Yenimahalle district on Wednesday and is now under control
The fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in the scrap yard area in Ivedikkoy Neighborhood, the reasons for which are yet to be determined, was intensively responded to by Ankara, Etimesgut, and Sincan fire brigade teams. They were assisted by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, General Directorate of Forestry, Turkish Aeronautical Association, General Directorate of Meteorology, General Directorate of Security, and gendarmerie teams.
Thanks to the intervention of the teams, the fire has been brought under control and cooling efforts are under way.
A total of 111 vehicles and 468 personnel were actively working to put out the fire that broke out in the area where vehicle tires and waste were located.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head Levent Ceri, in his statement to journalists, mentioned that the initial report was about a fire in an open area involving scrap and tires.
Ceri stated that in the open area where the fire occurred, factories operate in adjacent order, and added: “We do not yet know the exact cause of the fire, but the initial report to us was of a garbage fire in the open area scrap yard. All of our fire stations, as well as the firefighters on duty, were in the region. We also requested air support from other units. We tried to contain the fire before it spread further. There are no casualties. Unfortunately, the wind played a significant role in spreading the fire. We made efforts to prevent this by deploying interventions from both the air and the ground.”
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavas also went to the scene, inspected the teams’ work, and received information from the officials.
