An explosion occurred at a pasta factory in the Hendek district of Sakarya, sparking a major fire and injuring at least 20 people, according to initial reports.

The explosion took place near the Anadolu Highway Hendek toll booth at approximately 13:20 on Monday, though the cause of the blast remains undetermined.

Following the explosion, a fire quickly spread throughout the facility.

Firefighters and emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, where efforts to bring the fire under control continued.

Injuries, evacuations

According to the Anadolu Agency (AA), 20 individuals have been injured and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency personnel are still at the site, assisting with evacuations and treating the injured. No fatalities have been reported at this time.

Thick smoke visible across district

The fire has caused thick plumes of smoke to rise into the sky, which can be seen from various parts of the Hendek district. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid the area while firefighters work to contain the blaze.

Ongoing firefighting efforts

The fire has caused significant damage to the factory, with firefighting teams working tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading further.

“The fire has spread rapidly, and we are doing everything we can to bring it under control,” a fire department official stated.

Investigation launched

An investigation into the cause of the explosion has been launched. Authorities are currently examining the site to determine the origin of the blast and whether any safety violations contributed to the incident.
