The Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis has announced Greece’s intention to acquire F-35 fighter jets, revealing the receipt of a letter from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken approving the sale.
Mitsotakis emphasized the significance of the approval letter as proof of the strong ties between Greece and the U.S., portraying Greece as a stabilizing factor in the region.
Mitsotakis outlined the procurement plan, saying: “We have the possibility to buy up to 40 F-35s. We will not make the purchase all at once due to its high cost.”
He revealed that adequate funds have been secured for the initial phase, with the expectation of the first fleet of F-35s being delivered by the end of the 2020s.
