Erdogan’s diplomatic push: Biden pledges F-16 resolution

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan departed Washington, D.C., late last night aboard the special aircraft “TUR” following his participation in the NATO leaders’ summit. Erdogan addressed journalists at the Walter E. Convention Center, holding a press conference where he fielded questions.
Diplomatic push for F-16s
Regarding reports from foreign media about the scaling back of the F-16 purchase and local production of components, Erdogan responded: “I raised this issue again last night and today with President (Joe) Biden. He assured me, ‘I will resolve this matter within 3-4 weeks.’ As we parted ways today, I reminded him once more. He reaffirmed his commitment, and we exchanged lighthearted remarks. This issue has been ongoing, and I’m conveying President Biden’s latest response.”
Assad meeting prospects
Regarding recent comments on a potential meeting with Syrian regime leader Bashar Assad and allegations of external interference in incidents in Kayseri aimed at hindering Türkiye’s Syria involvement, Erdogan said: “I currently do not possess the specific information regarding this. Two weeks ago, I made contact with President Assad, proposing a meeting in Türkiye or a third country. I’ve tasked my Foreign Minister to handle this, aiming for constructive dialogue to address any discord.”
