Erdogan welcomes Egypt’s el-Sissi in Ankara, marking new era in bilateral ties
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi arrived in Türkiye on Wednesday, in a significant move signaling a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
This is the first time in 12 years that an Egyptian president has visited Türkiye.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the Egyptian president at Esenboga Airport in Ankara.
Sissi’s visit is considered a significant step toward normalizing relations between Türkiye and Egypt.
During official talks in Ankara, hosted by President Erdogan, discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders are also expected to address regional concerns, including the conflict in Gaza following Israel’s offensive that began on October 7, 2023.
Türkiye-Egypt relations were severed after the coup in Egypt on July 3, 2013. The most important threshold of normalization in relations was crossed with President Erdogan’s visit to Cairo on February 14, 2024.
With el-Sissi’s visit to Ankara, the normalization process in bilateral relations is expected to be completed and relations are expected to be fully dominated by a positive agenda.
