Erdogan welcomes ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, urges global action

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday hailed the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) recent arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, emphasizing the need for the decision’s enforcement to restore global trust in the international system.

“We consider the implementation of this courageous decision by all parties to the ICC agreement important for restoring humanity’s trust in the international system,” Erdogan said during his address at the International NGO Fair in Istanbul.

He underscored the significance of accountability for Israel’s actions in Gaza and criticized countries that support Tel Aviv while neglecting human rights and democracy.

“The blood of those martyred and injured in Palestine stains not only their killers but also those who fail to stop them,” he added.

The ICC’s landmark ruling issued warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Erdogan condemned international media and organizations for ignoring atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon, asserting that the bloodshed implicates both the perpetrators and those who fail to act.

Türkiye committed to peaceful resolution

Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to a peaceful resolution, calling for unity in the Islamic world and urging efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He highlighted the broader humanitarian crises in Sudan, Yemen, and elsewhere, stressing the need for solidarity and decisive action against aggressors.

In his speech, Erdogan called on NGOs to enhance their enforcement capabilities and work in greater harmony to address global injustices.

Israel’s recent conflict with Gaza and Lebanon, which has resulted in significant casualties and displacement, is under international scrutiny, with ongoing legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice.
