President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledges to continue efforts towards a”fair peace” between Russia and Ukraine during joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged continued efforts toward fostering a “fair peace” between Russia and Ukraine during a joint news conference with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymr Zelenskyy in Istanbul on Friday.
Erdogan emphasized Ankara’s solidarity with Ukraine while expressing determination to pursue negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. “Türkiye is ready to host a peace summit in which Russia will also be present,” he stated.
Moreover, Erdogan announced Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine, highlighting the success of the Black Sea Grain Initiative in delivering approximately 33 million tons of grain to those in need, thus averting a potential global food crisis.
“We are pleased that our bilateral trade remains stable despite the war,” Erdogan remarked, underlining the importance of the timely implementation of the free trade agreement with Ukraine to bolster relations.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lauded Türkiye’s significant contributions to humanitarian efforts, stating that they had achieved “serious humanitarian results” with Turkey’s support.
During the joint press conference, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Erdogan and the Turkish people for their unwavering backing of Kyiv’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
