Erdogan stresses BRICS support for Palestine amid meeting with Putin
Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated Wednesday that the BRICS nations’ position against Israeli aggression would bolster Palestine’s just cause.
In a meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Erdogan emphasized that the ongoing unconditional arms and ammunition support from various countries to Israel fuels Tel Aviv’s aggression. This assertion was included in a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate on X.
The discussion addressed Israel’s escalating attacks in the region, developments in the Russia-Ukraine war, and the bilateral relations between Türkiye and Russia, along with other global and regional issues.
Turning to international concerns, Putin described the worsening situation in the Middle East as “the most pressing issue on the global agenda.”
He added, “The principled positions of Russia and Türkiye are very close on these issues. We see a lasting political and diplomatic settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict only on the basis of a generally recognized two-state formula approved by the UN Security Council.”
Putin also invited Erdogan to discuss “regional issues of particular importance” for both countries, including the Syrian peace process and the Karabakh settlement. He expressed readiness to brief Erdogan on the Ukrainian crisis.
Putin acknowledges Türkiye’s interest in BRICS
Thanking Erdogan for accepting the invitation to participate in the BRICS Outreach/Plus format meeting in Kazan on Thursday, Putin remarked, “Your participation in this event will certainly reflect the significant role that Türkiye plays in solving the pressing problems of the modern world.”
The Russian leader acknowledged Ankara’s interest in fostering closer cooperation with BRICS, stating, “We see significant prospects here, taking into account the authority and special geopolitical role of your country, which connects the east and west of the Eurasian continent.”
