President Erdogan announces that Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is expected to make a visit to Türkiye in April or May
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed journalists aboard his plane following visits to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, shedding light on the status of bilateral relations with Egypt.
“Our visit to Egypt upon the invitation of President el-Sissi was very sincere, productive, and successful. I was particularly pleased that el-Sissi personally came to the airport to welcome us along with his colleagues,” Erdogan said.
El-Sissi to visit Türkiye in April or May
During their meetings, President Erdogan revealed that he and el-Sissi delved into the recent momentum in relations across various domains, notably the military and defense industry. Erdogan announced a consensus to promptly convene the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting.
Erdogan pointed out that el-Sissi’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for early April and stated that he will visit Türkiye in April or May.
Emphasizing that Türkiye is determined to reach $15 billion in trade volume with Egypt, its largest trading partner on the African continent, Erdogan said, “In addition to bilateral issues, we also exchanged views on regional issues, especially Palestine. We intend to increase our cooperation with Egypt to stop the massacres in Gaza as soon as possible and to ensure a permanent and sustainable solution to the Palestinian cause.”
‘We share historical and geographical bonds’
Erdogan emphasized the significance of Turkey and Egypt’s relations, affirming, “Both countries hold pivotal roles in the region’s dynamics.”
Reflecting on the reinstatement of diplomatic relations following a 12-year hiatus, Erdogan attributed the pivotal role of the Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during the World Cup, stating, “It was through the intervention of His Highness Sheikh Tamim, the Emir of Qatar, that we convened at the World Cup and commenced the normalization process.”
Erdogan underscored the historical and geographical ties between the two nations, asserting, “We not only share a common history but also the same sea with Egypt, whose significance in the global context is steadily rising day by day.”
‘Synchronized steps in foreign policy’
Stressing the alignment of foreign policy with mutual interests, Erdogan asserted, “Hence, synchronized steps taken by both countries undoubtedly serve their mutual interests.”
Emphasizing the role of mutual interests in shaping foreign policy, Erdogan advocated for synchronized steps between the two nations, highlighting Egypt’s recognition of this reality as the cornerstone of a new era of cooperation.
Erdogan also highlighted the importance of unity in facing forthcoming challenges, asserting the necessity for joint efforts to maintain peace and stability both regionally and globally. He concluded by affirming the potential for bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt, indicating readiness to progress as opportunities arise.
