Erdogan rallies support for Murat Kurum in Istanbul ahead of local elections
Erdogan’s rally speech focuses on the upcoming local elections, particularly in Istanbul, with criticism directed at the current municipality led by CHP’s Ekrem Imamoglu
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in Istanbul’s Arnavutkoy Saturday for a municipal election campaign ahead of the March 31 elections.
In his address to a large crowd of supporters, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader lashed out at the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), which retains the mayoral seat in the Mediterranean province.
“We inquired about participation here: 35,000! As we head to the polls with great enthusiasm, are we handing over Arnavutkoy to real municipal governance to my brother Murat Kurum and also to our Mayor of Arnavutkoy?” the president said as he addressed the crowd.
The upcoming local elections, particularly in Istanbul, were the focal point of Erdogan’s rally speech, with criticism directed at the current municipality led by Ekrem Imamoglu from the main opposition CHP.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the country, Erdogan underscored the threat posed by terrorist organizations such as PKK, FETO and DAESH, which he claimed were obstructing progress toward the vision by aligning with imperialist agendas and coup plotters.
“We have overcome these threats with the help of God and the unwavering support of our country,” Erdogan said.
