In his remarks at the inauguration of Yildiz Palace, which has undergone a six-year restoration, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared it as Istanbul’s third center.

He emphasized its historical significance, stating, “It witnessed the most challenging years of the Ottoman Empire and also holds a place in our national struggle.”

Erdogan continued, “We are opening one of Istanbul’s most beautiful historical sites. This is not an ordinary piece; it has witnessed the most turbulent years of the Ottoman Empire.”

Highlighting the palace’s role in the War of Independence, President Erdogan said, “Yildiz Palace also played a part in the national struggle. One day before Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk embarked on the Bandirma Ferry, he met Sultan Vahdettin here.”

Erdogan further stated, “With a sense of historical loyalty and respect for the past, we have revived our monuments.”

He announced that Yildiz Palace would be open to visitors free of charge until the end of August.

Lastly, President Erdogan noted that since 2002, 6,000 cultural assets have been restored.
