President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Thursday emphasized Türkiye’s essential role in the European Union’s security framework, reiterating that the country’s full inclusion is vital to Europe’s stability.

In his remarks, Erdogan criticized the prolonged delay in Türkiye’s EU accession process, stating: “There is no reasonable explanation for the blocking of the accession process of a candidate country like Türkiye, which has made significant contributions to the prosperity and security of the continent for years.”

War in Ukraine: Erdogan urges diplomatic efforts

Addressing the ongoing Ukraine war, Erdogan expressed concern over its escalating impact on global stability. “The negative effects of the war in Ukraine are deepening day by day. The prolongation of the war leaves less and less room for diplomacy,” he noted.

Erdogan added he had recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and received Ukrainian Deputy Head of the Office of the President Andrii Sybiha, where he conveyed Türkiye’s commitment to fostering diplomatic solutions.

Joint responsibility for combating terrorism

Erdogan called on EU countries to demonstrate concrete cooperation in Türkiye’s fight against the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, underscoring the importance of a united front against terrorism without selective distinctions between terrorist groups.

“It is the responsibility of all of us to fight against terrorism in cooperation and solidarity and without discriminating between terrorist organizations,” he asserted.

Crisis in Gaza: Immediate cease-fire needed

Turning to the crisis in Gaza, Erdogan described the humanitarian toll as a “common shame of humanity,” criticizing ongoing violence in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. “Considering the loss of nearly 50,000 lives, it is essential to pressure Israel to ensure an immediate ceasefire and to facilitate sufficient humanitarian aid to the region,” he said.

Erdogan further condemned unconditional support for Israel‘s actions, cautioning that such support implicates these parties in the associated violence. “Those who support Israel’s aggression unconditionally should know that they have become partners in the crimes committed,” he warned.

Türkiye’s commitment to diplomacy and regional stability

Throughout his statements, Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts aimed at mitigating regional conflicts and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to stability in both Europe and the Middle East.

He concluded by calling on European allies to actively support Türkiye’s fight against regional terrorism and ensure the continuation of humanitarian aid to conflict zones.
