Environment Minister Kurum assesses devastating wildfires in Türkiye
In the wake of devastating wildfires that have swept across multiple regions in Türkiye, Environment Minister Murat Kurum has been actively overseeing recovery efforts. During his visit to Iskenderun, he provided updates on the damage assessments and highlighted the government’s commitment to rebuilding and supporting affected communities.
Damage assessment of wildfires in Türkiye
Izmir: Minister Kurum recalled the wildfire in Izmir’s Karsiyaka district, where strong winds caused the fire to spread to residential and industrial areas.
- Damage report: Initial assessments revealed that 52 buildings and 97 independent units were inspected, with 43 buildings and 45 units severely affected.
- Current status: The fire has been brought under control, and distinguishing efforts are ongoing. Damage assessments will continue in other affected areas like Tire and Urla.
Manisa: In Manisa’s Gordes district, the villages of Boyali and Karayakup were severely impacted by a forest fire.
- Damage report: Three teams were dispatched, and inspections were conducted on 46 buildings and 66 independent units. Of these, 36 buildings and 52 units were identified as heavily damaged or in need of urgent demolition.
- Recovery efforts: Minister Kurum reassured residents that the government is working swiftly to address the damages and ensure that the communities receive the necessary support.
