President Recep Tayyip Erdogan talked with the first Turkish astronaut, Alper Gezeravci, who is set to embark on the inaugural human space mission under the National Space Program in a video conference during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday.
Erdogan and members of his Cabinet extended their wishes to Gezeravci, who is currently conducting a quarantine in Orlando, Florida – where the mission will take off.
Expressing pride in Gezeravci’s upcoming historic mission, President Erdogan said: “You will be the first citizen to carry out a space mission. You will truly bring great pride to our nation. Are you ready?”
Gezeravci responded affirmatively, expressing readiness to fulfill the mission with distinction.
The mission was crucial for Erdogan as he considers it a scientific project and a motivating force for children and youth. “This is a new beginning, and we will continue this mission. We will always aim higher. We wish you and your team success. May you complete this mission in good health. May God be your helper and supporter. Safe travels,” the president conveyed his wishes.
Gezeravci expressed his gratitude, saying: “We are thankful for opening the curtain that limits our dreams for future generations. Thank you very much. I convey greetings from the Action 3 team.”
