Education suspended in 11 cities across Türkiye on Feb. 24, excluding Istanbul

Due to heavy snowfall and icy conditions across Türkiye, authorities in several provinces have announced a one-day suspension of in-person education on Feb. 24.

Provincial governorates in 11 cities have taken precautionary measures in response to the ongoing winter weather, temporarily halting education in affected areas.

According to official statements, the measures implemented in each province are as follows:

  • Kocaeli: In-person education for students using transportation services has been suspended for one day in Izmit, Basiskele, Kartepe, and Karamursel districts.
  • Rize: All educational institutions in the province will be closed for the day. Additionally, public sector employees who are disabled, pregnant, or mothers with children under the age of 8 will be granted administrative leave.
  • Bartin: Primary and secondary schools across the province will be closed for one day due to heavy snowfall. Similar to Rize, public employees who are disabled, pregnant, or mothers with children under eight will be given administrative leave.
  • Ordu: In response to the severe snowfall, all primary and secondary schools will suspend education for the day, with administrative leave granted to eligible public employees.
  • Amasya: Schools providing transportation-based education will remain closed for one day.
  • Bingol: Classes in Karliova district have been suspended for a day.

Other provinces where educational activities will be disrupted include Artvin, Tokat, Siirt, Samsun, and Zonguldak, with specific details expected to be announced by local authorities.

Authorities continue to monitor the weather conditions, urging residents to exercise caution and stay updated on further announcements.
