Defense ministry renames Incirlik Air Base to 10th Main Jet Base Command
The Ministry of National Defense announces the renaming of Incirlik Air Base, located in Adana, Türkiye, to 10th Main Jet Base Command to align with the needs of the Turkish Air Force
The Turkish National Defense Ministry announced that the 10th Tanker Base Command in Incirlik, Adana, has been redesignated as the 10th Main Jet Base Command to better meet their operational needs.
Reason behind name change
Incirlik Air Base, located in Adana and widely known to the public, was opened for use in 1951. The base houses military aircraft of both the Turkish Air Force and the U.S. Air Force.
In 1955, its official name was changed to Adana Air Base. By 1958, it took on the name Incirlik Air Base. As of 2024, the Ministry of National Defense has renamed it 10th Main Jet Base Command.
The Air Forces Command classifies bases as main jet bases, main transportation bases, and tanker bases. Incirlik Air Base was previously known as the 10th Tanker Base Command under the Turkish Air Force.
In recent years, in line with requirements, the 152nd Squadron located in Merzifon was relocated to Incirlik. With the deployment of a combat squadron to Incirlik, it transitioned from a tanker base to a main jet base.
